High-end baccarat was the only thing holding the Las Vegas Strip in positive territory in August, with $848.8 million wagered and $155 million collected, both up about 34 percent, while non-baccarat table revenue fell more than 19 percent. — The Nevada Independent, Oct 1
The chief executives of MGM Resorts, Caesars Entertainment and Wynn Resorts told G2E they will hold high-end room rates even at the cost of occupancy, arguing Las Vegas rates still run 40 percent below New York and 7 percent below Los Angeles. — Review-Journal, Sep 29
Boyd Gaming unveiled the finished casino-floor overhaul of the Suncoast in Summerlin, a multiyear project that since 2023 has added a high-limit slot room, a stadium-style sportsbook, a bingo room, a food hall and a 70-seat center bar, with hotel rooms and the bowling center due by year’s end. — Review-Journal, Sep 30

Sixty-four Nevada FedEx delivery drivers joined a 10,000-plus national group suing the company for unpaid overtime, filing in U.S. District Court in Nevada on Sept. 29 and 30 and arguing FedEx is a joint employer despite routing them through intermediary service providers. — Review-Journal, Oct 2
A Legislative Counsel Bureau audit of Clark County School District teacher recruiting from July 2021 through June 2024 found two of five trips examined wasted public funds on extended beachfront stays in Miami and Honolulu with few hires to show for it, and the district accepted all nine recommendations. — Review-Journal, Sep 29

Nevada was the only one of five Southwestern states analyzed by UNLV researchers where generations born before 1981 outnumber Gen Z, with Gen X (649,367) and Baby Boomers (640,390) each edging out Gen Z (640,239) in 2024, pointing to rising demand for caregivers and a smaller generation entering the workforce. — Review-Journal, Sep 30

Freddie Mac put the average 30-year mortgage rate at 7.28 percent Thursday, the largest weekly jump in four years and the highest level in nearly three, and Las Vegas Realtors brought in the National Association of Realtors’ chief economist to tell members how to sell into it. — Review-Journal, Oct 1
AAA put the Las Vegas Valley average for regular unleaded at $5.50 a gallon Wednesday, up 15 cents in a week and 67 cents in a month, leaving the area 11 cents short of its record $5.61 set in June 2022. — Review-Journal, Oct 1
Sky Quarry restarted the Eagle Springs Refinery near Ely, Nevada’s only crude oil refinery, after winning a state air permit and making about $300,000 in repairs; the small plant produces diesel, naphtha and paving asphalt for a state that has long relied on fuel refined elsewhere. — Review-Journal, Sep 28
