Vegas Business Roundup
Top Stories
Home prices slip from the peak. Southern Nevada’s median single-family price fell 1.1% in September to $470,000, which is $20,000 below the May–June record. Sales totaled 2,169 homes, condos and townhomes, and the market has five months of inventory. — Nevada Business Magazine, Oct 5
Insurance costs climb on two fronts. Nevada Health Link marketplace plans will average 17% more for 2027. That’s the second straight double-digit increase for the 100,000+ Nevadans who buy coverage there. Separately, the state employee health board voted 5–4 to cut plan subsidies. Had that cut been in force this year, retiree premiums in the two most popular plans would have risen $34–$172 a month. Why it matters: self-employed owners and small firms buying marketplace coverage should budget for another big jump. — Nevada Current, Oct 5 · The Nevada Independent, Oct 7
County says Las Vegas owes it $338M. Clark County is claiming $338 million from the City of Las Vegas for services in the northwest valley. City officials declined to discuss the claim and argue the current services agreement is unfair. — 8 News Now, Oct 8
A’s ballpark is halfway built. Construction on the $2.1 billion domed ballpark on the Strip is half finished. The project draws $380 million in public assistance under a 2023 state law, including $135 million in Clark County bonds and $25 million for infrastructure. — LVSportsBiz, Oct 7
Grand Prix tickets average $1,638. Organizers confirmed the average ticket price for November’s race. By Hard Rock Bet’s count, that makes it the eighth most expensive sports ticket in the country this year. Prices range from $50 single-day seats to a $30,000 three-day F1 Garage package. — LVSportsBiz, Oct 8
Healthcare
The valley adds hospital capacity. North Las Vegas is down to two hospital systems competing to build its first acute-care hospital, the anchor of a planned 135-acre medical campus at the 215 and Pecos, and expects a deal within 90 days. Larry and Heidi Canarelli committed $50 million toward Nevada’s first stand-alone children’s hospital. And Clark County approved a 24-hour, six-room UHS emergency department at Warm Springs and Topaz in Paradise. — Nevada Business Magazine, Oct 5 · 8 News Now, Oct 7 · NVBEX, Oct 9
Policy & Government
Data centers push into power and land rules. Microsoft, Amazon, Switch and five other data center companies formally intervened in NV Energy’s resource plan as the utility prepares for a projected surge in demand. In Nye County, commissioners tightened the rules for data center proposals after hours of public comment. — Review-Journal, Oct 6 · 8 News Now, Oct 9
Regulators drop the national problem-gambling group. The Gaming Control Board gave initial approval to removing the National Council on Problem Gambling from state regulations and replacing its helpline with a Nevada nonprofit’s. The move comes two months after the state council cut ties over the national group’s $2 million deal with prediction market Kalshi. — CDC Gaming, Oct 8
Lombardo’s 900 regulation cuts, examined. The governor says he cut or streamlined 900 regulations. A Nevada Independent analysis found most carried no projected economic effect, and hundreds dealt with definitions or internal agency processes rather than business rules. — The Nevada Independent, Oct 4
Real Estate & Development
Summerlin keeps building. The developer of the valley’s largest master-planned community sold more than $100 million of land to homebuilders. Separately, a two-tower condo complex is planned near the outdoor mall at Sahara and the 215. — Review-Journal, Oct 5 · Review-Journal, Oct 8
LVGEA teams up with commercial brokers. The alliance signed agreements with eight brokerage offices, including CBRE, JLL, Cushman & Wakefield and Avison Young. Why it matters: businesses relocating or expanding through those brokers get LVGEA’s site-selection research and incentive help built into the deal. — LVGEA, Oct 6
Small Business
UNLV lands a federal grant for deep-tech firms. The SBA named UNLV one of seven new recipients of a Federal and State Technology grant. GOED matched it with 67% in cash from its Knowledge Fund. The money expands a program that helps Nevada deep-tech companies compete for federal research dollars. — GOED, Oct 7
Arts District weighs First Friday’s future. Business owners are considering security changes and how the monthly event should evolve after a teenager was killed there. — Review-Journal, Oct 5
