LVGEA is now LVREP. The Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance announced Friday that it is now the Las Vegas Regional Economic Partnership, completing an “identity reset” called for in the strategic plan its board adopted in June 2026. A board task force worked through the summer with a national economic development branding firm, and surveys of site selection experts found that leading with “Las Vegas” carried global recognition while “regional” distinguished the group from individual city economic development offices. Mission, partners and services continue without interruption, and the new identity rolled out across lvrep.org on Oct 16. Why it matters: This is the organization most Southern Nevada relocation and expansion deals route through, and its name, website and brand guidelines all changed on one day. — Las Vegas Review-Journal, Oct 16 2026 · LVREP, Oct 16 2026
Vegas Chamber names its businesses of the year. The Vegas Chamber filled a sold-out Golden Nugget ballroom on Oct 15 for its 2026 Business of the Year Awards, presented by Nevada State Bank. Inclusion Fusion took the 1–50 employee category, Stimulus Technologies the 51–100 and AREA15 the 101-and-up, while F1 Arcade Las Vegas was named Emerging Business of the Year and The Shade Tree of Las Vegas Nonprofit of the Year. Rick Neal Jr. of Goodwill of Southern Nevada took Executive of the Year, Gina Bongiovi’s Bongiovi Law Firm Woman-Owned, Patriot Air Conditioning Veteran-Owned, and R&R Partners’ Billy Vassiliadis the Free Enterprise Award. — Vegas Chamber, Oct 15 2026
LVREP unveils its new name at the Perspective Awards. The Las Vegas Regional Economic Partnership held its first Perspective Awards Dinner at the Orleans Arena on the evening of Oct 15, honoring six recipients and unveiling its new name. The Athletics’ Las Vegas Ballpark took the Economic Impact Award, Haas Automation the Regional Investment Award, and Roseman University of Health Sciences the Innovation & Industry Advancement Award. The Governor’s Office of Economic Development took Strategic Partnership, National Technical Institute took Community & Workforce Impact, and Michael J. Bonner took Distinguished Leadership. — LVREP, Sep 10 2026 · LVREP, Oct 16 2026
AREA15’s developer pitches an NBA arena. Fisher Brothers, the family-owned firm that built AREA15, wants to partner with an NBA expansion bid group on an arena of 18,000 to 20,000 seats between AREA15 and Palace Station just west of Interstate 15, on land inside Las Vegas city limits. Mayor Shelley Berkley wrote a letter backing the site, and the firm has submitted its proposal to the league; the winning expansion fee is reportedly $12 billion to $13 billion, with $2 billion to $3 billion of that going to build an arena. Resorts World’s president separately argued his property is the ideal location, and Raiders minority owner Egon Durban joined the Nancy Walton Laurie and Bill Laurie bid group, which Sports Business Journal reports is eyeing a site next to Allegiant Stadium. — Las Vegas Review-Journal, Oct 12 2026 · Las Vegas Review-Journal, Oct 11 2026 · LVSportsBiz, Oct 15 2026
Lennar breaks ground on 1,000-plus homes downtown. Lennar held a ceremonial groundbreaking Oct 15 for The Foundry, a roughly 70-acre community spanning the empty former Grant Sawyer state office building site and the Cashman Center complex across the street. The project calls for more than 1,000 townhomes and single-family houses with prices planned to start in the $300,000 range, and vertical construction is expected to begin in October 2027. Cashman Field hosted its last sports event on Oct 17, a Las Vegas Lights farewell match, and the builder has proposed 781 homes on the Cashman site plus 290 units across the road. Why it matters: Two government-owned parcels downtown convert to housing, and Gov. Joe Lombardo said remodeling the Grant Sawyer building instead would have cost more than $450 million. — Las Vegas Review-Journal, Oct 15 2026 · LVSportsBiz, Oct 17 2026
Arizona joins Nevada’s Colorado River lawsuit. Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs and the state’s Department of Water Resources said Friday that Arizona has intervened in the lawsuit Nevada filed in August against the U.S. Department of the Interior over new Colorado River rules. Nevada, the Colorado River Commission of Nevada and the Southern Nevada Water Authority sued Aug 24, the first state to challenge Interior’s final plan. Under that framework Nevada’s 300,000 acre-foot allocation could be cut by as much as 213,556 acre-feet, about 71 percent, if Lower Basin shortages reach the outer limit. Why it matters: That outer limit would leave Southern Nevada under 86,500 acre-feet a year, well below the roughly 198,000 acre-feet it used in 2025. — The Nevada Independent, Oct 16 2026 · Nevada Current, Oct 16 2026
Jobs & Workforce
Nevada’s jobless rate falls to 4.7 percent. The state’s unemployment rate dropped a tenth of a point in September to 4.7 percent, its lowest since before the pandemic, while total nonfarm employment hit a record high. DETR’s monthly report showed 1,500 jobs added in the Las Vegas market between August and September, though a shrinking labor force again outweighed a smaller gain in jobs. — KSNV, Oct 16 2026 · 8 News Now, Oct 15 2026
Nevada’s unions split over data centers. Electrical and construction unions that work on data center projects are arguing the facilities can be good for the state, while service unions are not convinced. IBEW Local 357 political director Ronald Young said guardrails on water and energy use are necessary but an all-out moratorium could cost Nevada, and an SEIU Local 1107 steward said he is skeptical of rampant data center construction in Southern Nevada. — The Nevada Independent, Oct 13 2026
Report puts immigration-policy cost at $441 million. An analysis from the advocacy group Fwd.us estimates that roughly 15,000 people in Nevada could lose legal protections, costing the state’s economy about $441 million by the end of this year. Around 7,000 of them hold government-authorized work permits, and the report found construction and hospitality could each lose roughly 2,000 workers. — Nevada Current, Oct 13 2026
Regents make Heavey UNLV’s permanent president. The Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents voted 10-3 on Oct 16 to appoint interim president Chris Heavey to the permanent job under a three-year contract with a base salary of $627,816. The contract runs to Oct 31 2029 and adds annual allowances of $18,000 for housing, $8,000 for transportation and $5,000 for hosting guests. — Las Vegas Review-Journal, Oct 16 2026
Real Estate & Development
Artemis buys two Apex warehouses for $190M. Washington-area firm Artemis Real Estate Partners acquired two industrial buildings totaling 1.2 million square feet in North Las Vegas’ Apex Industrial Park, paying $118.2 million for one and $74.2 million for the other. Developer VanTrust Real Estate sold the pair, which were previously leased to DHL, and has now sold off all its holdings in the Vantage North campus it built there. — Las Vegas Review-Journal, Oct 14 2026
Four Seasons towers reach $950M in sales. Buyers have signed contracts for 148 of the 171 units at Four Seasons Private Residences Las Vegas, more than 85 percent of the project and $950 million in sales. Both towers, 24 and 25 stories, have topped out in Henderson’s MacDonald Highlands and glass installation is underway; prices start at $5.15 million. — Las Vegas Review-Journal, Oct 13 2026
State adds $38 million for attainable housing. Ten affordable housing developments will share an additional $38 million in state funding supporting 891 homes, with Southern Nevada sites among them. — 8 News Now, Oct 12 2026
Policy & Government
Forecasters see at least $1 billion more for the next state budget. The Economic Forum, the five private-sector economists who set the size of Nevada’s budget under state law, heard revenue forecasts on Oct 14 showing lawmakers could have between $900 million and $1.64 billion more to work with in the next two-year cycle. General fund revenues grew about 7.5 percent in fiscal 2026. Economists noted that part of the growth comes from inflation and higher insurance premiums, and the Forum finalizes the number next month. — The Nevada Independent, Oct 15 2026
Appeals court narrows the short-term rental injunction. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals found that a court-ordered pause on parts of Clark County’s short-term rental rules was “unnecessarily broad” and had effectively let anyone in the county operate an unlicensed rental for nearly a year. The court ordered a Nevada judge to narrow the injunction so the county can stand up a working license regime. Why it matters: County licensing for short-term rentals has been closed longer than the injunction has been in place, and commissioners could take up an ordinance amendment as early as Oct 20. — Las Vegas Review-Journal, Oct 13 2026
Healthcare
Children’s hospital agreement goes to county commissioners. The Clark County Zoning Commission introduced an ordinance on Oct 7 that would create a development agreement between the county, which owns the land, and Intermountain Health, which is developing the Intermountain Health Children’s Hospital. The building is planned at eight stories and 170 feet with about 830,400 square feet, construction is expected to start by the end of the month and the hospital is expected to open by 2030. The Board of Commissioners decides on Oct 21. — NVBEX, Oct 10 2026
Henderson adds a recuperative care center. Mayor Michelle Romero used her State of the City address to announce a partnership with St. Rose Dominican to open a Recuperative Care Navigation Center at the hospital’s Rose de Lima campus for patients who no longer need hospitalization but cannot yet go home. The center will have 40 beds for stays of 30 to 90 days with medical oversight, meals, transportation and case management, and renovations are underway with an opening hoped for early 2027. Romero also said the city finalized a transfer of about 18 acres to developer Ovation for roughly 300 attainable housing units. — Las Vegas Review-Journal, Oct 15 2026
Gaming & Tourism
R&R Partners merges into MMGY Global. Las Vegas-based R&R Partners and MMGY of Overland Park, Kansas announced on Oct 14 that they have combined into MMGY Global, a travel and tourism agency with more than 800 employees. The deal closed Sept 30 and other terms were not disclosed. R&R keeps its brand and leadership including CEO Michon Martin, and the two firms already worked together on accounts including the LVCVA, R&R’s largest client. — Las Vegas Review-Journal, Oct 14 2026 · The Nevada Independent, Oct 14 2026
Rio puts bookings inside ChatGPT. The Rio launched a platform built by Traversing.ai that lets guests check room availability, browse packages and pool cabanas, find restaurant hours and reach hotel departments through ChatGPT rather than the resort’s website or phone line. The resort says the system carries information across phone, text, web chat and ChatGPT. The Culinary Union, which represents about 60,000 hospitality workers statewide, has warned that AI combined with robotics could deepen job losses in the industry. — Las Vegas Review-Journal, Oct 16 2026 · Nevada Business, Oct 12 2026
Conventions & Events Business
LVCVA books a confidential 2031 show and VEX Robotics. Chief Sales Officer Vanessa Claspill told the LVCVA board that a convention new to Las Vegas has signed for three years beginning in 2031, producing an estimated 62,000 room nights a year and using The Venetian, Caesars Palace, Wynn Las Vegas and the yet-to-open Hard Rock as headquarters resorts along with Allegiant Stadium; organizers asked not to be named. Claspill also said the VEX Robotics World Championship arrives April 23-30 with an estimated 32,000 room nights and a two-year commitment. Las Vegas has drawn 4.5 million convention attendees through August, up 10.5 percent from 2025. — Las Vegas Review-Journal, Oct 14 2026
Small Business
First Friday is paused while the Arts District debates a tax on itself. The First Friday Foundation said future events are not being scheduled while it, Metropolitan police and the city work out how to proceed after the Oct 2 shooting that killed a 15-year-old and injured two others. Separately, a petition by property and business owners to create an Arts District Business Improvement District is drawing pushback over gentrification and displacement; early estimates put first-year revenue at about $1.9 million, raised through annual assessments of $6.50 per $1,000 of assessed value on commercial, apartment and nonprofit property and $3.25 per $1,000 on residential condominiums. Approval requires owners representing more than half the district’s assessed value, then a public hearing and City Council approval. — Las Vegas Review-Journal, Oct 15 2026 · Las Vegas Review-Journal, Oct 15 2026
Wynn Resorts Foundation opens $200,000 in nonprofit grants. Southern Nevada nonprofits can compete for up to $200,000 in grant funding through the Wynn Resorts Foundation’s 2026 Pitch Fest. — 8 News Now, Oct 17 2026
